The immensely talented Cohns clean, bright expressive style is light and elegant. The colors are also very natural and are tones taken from the earths color palette. He uses a liberal amount of water with the paint to get expansive and beautiful washes, which are meaningful and quite lovely. Cohn also uses a few sure strokes to create various dark black outlines to convey a striking, fresh waterscape. Sometimes simplicity in a painting is just as powerful as intricate details. This modern masterpiece measures 27 x 23. This beautiful watercolor already comes matted and framed. It is carefully chosen and individually crafted by Le Chateaus own master framer, Jeanette Shoenrock. It is uniquely framed in a splendid, variegated, copper colored wood frame and matted in lapis blue and sandstone colors. Signed and dated in the lower left hand corner, Cohns fantastic work is an excellent buy for those who love watercolors and nature. Harold Cohn (1908-1982), was a successful painter, printmaker and teacher working both in Detroit and New Jersey. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the country including, The Detroit Institute of Arts (1933-45), The Carnegie Institute (1941&43), The Los Angeles Museum of Art (1945), The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (1934), and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (1942). During his extensive career, Cohn explored many different elements of contemporary art. These influences can be seen in many of his drawings and paintings; much of his experimentation is thought to be reminiscent of Matisses art work. With such a striking comparison, it is no wonder that Cohn has such an extensive auction record. | | | Features: | |
